UTS First Year Stop-Motion Project · Team Wooden Key

Wooden Key

Wooden Key was the name of our team for this abstract stop-motion animation, created during my first year at UTS. Inspired by fireworks and Tetris-like forms, the film explores how geometric movement and rhythm can capture the atmosphere of a festival.

We developed a bright, vivid colour palette inspired by Vivid Sydney, aiming to express the excitement, energy, and colourful spectacle of the event.

My first animatic · UTS Team Project

Cooking Mama

Cooking Mama was the name of our UTS team project and my first experience creating an animatic. Based on the podcast segmentTahini Lentil Stew, we reimagined the audio as a chaotic cooking-show scene.

Through the project, we explored staging, comedic timing, character performance, and how storyboard images can translate spoken audio into a clear visual sequence. I especially enjoyed the collaborative process of developing the animatic as a team.

My first storyboard project · UTS Storyboarding Study

French Lover

French Lover is my first complete storyboard project, created during a UTS storyboarding class. Through this romantic-comedy sequence, I explored how a simple character moment can develop into a clear visual story.

The project helped me practise shot composition, character staging, reaction shots, visual pacing, and building towards a readable emotional payoff.

UTS First Year · Iteration Book

From first mark
to character.

A selection from my first-year character design iteration book, showing how one idea developed through observation, silhouettes, expression, pose, proportion, colour, and environment studies. These pages capture the experiments and decisions behind the final character and the world around it.

04 Personal Work · Basic Animation Study

Finding stories
in ordinary life.

I’m Byoung Jae Koh (Lucago91), a Korean Australian animator and artist based in Sydney. I hold a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) from the University of Sydney, completed in 2018, and I’m currently completing a Bachelor of Animation Production at UTS, with graduation expected in 2026.

My practice centres on storyboarding, 2D animation, and character design. I’m particularly drawn to character-driven stories that explore human emotion and the small details of everyday life.

My work is shaped by personal experiences, daily observations, and the people around me. I believe that even the quietest, simplest moments can hold meaningful stories.

Through Lucago91Animation, I aim to create warm, honest, and relatable work that connects with audiences on a personal level. I hope my storytelling inspires others and invites them to reflect on the beauty within their own experiences.

Let’s make something
memorable.
